Mason's Root Beer is an All-American brand of root beer with quite a past. Mason's Old Fashioned Root Beer started out in Chicago, IL in 1947 by Mason & Mason. This root beer along with some of their other flavors were mostly sold in the midwest and the south.
Back in 1970, Rheingold Corp. decided to enter the soda business by purchasing Grapette which later became Flavette. In looking to expand Flavette purchsed Mason & Mason as well as Dr. Wells sodas back in 1975. It wasn't long after that Pepsi purchased Flavette in a hostile takover. The FTC decided that Pepsi owned too many brands and forced them to sell several of them with Mason's Root Beer being one of the beverage brands. Monarch Beverage Company ultimately aquired Mason's Root Beer back in 1978 and is still the owner to date.
