First created by Roy Allen, A&W Root Beer was first introduced to the public through a roadside stand during a parade. Because of its tremendous success Roy Allen took on Frank Wright as a partner in 1922 and as a result of this partnership they combined their surname initials, thus the name A&W Root Beer was born.

After 2 years of partnership, Roy Allen bought out Frank Wright's share in the company and expanded it to a restaurant chain where he also sold the A&W Root Beer concentrate to those franchises. As the years gone by A&W Root Beer has gone through several ownership changes, but because of having its regular followers it has always been a success.
