One of the most famous soft drink brands in the world is the lemon-lime flavored 7 Up.
A brand of soda from Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. which is one of the largest beverage producers in the world, 7 Up has been quenching the thirst of its solid patrons since the 1920's. Invented in October 1929 by Charles Leiper Grigg under his company The Howdy Corporation, 7 Up was first called as Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime soda which was first marketed as a hangover cure because of its lithum citrate content.
The success of this lemon-lime soda was phenomenal as it was able to surpass the Great Depression and was able to dominate the lemon-lime soda market, this prompt its inventor to change its name to 7 Up.
Along the years, 7 Up underwent several changes in its formulation in its attempt to be known as a healthier option than other soft drink brand. In 1950's, lithium citrate was eliminated and recently in 2006 it removed the preservative calcium disodium EDTA from its formula and replaced its sodium citrate ingredient with potassium citrate in order to reduce the beverage's sodium content.
7 Up now is produced with 100% Natural flavors and is available in 12oz glass bottles.
